Returning home with a new baby is like bringing back a treasure chest found after a long journey: magical and a little destabilizing!

Just like a treasure hunt, pregnancy and childbirth are not easy for the mother and the family. This great adventure requires a moment of sweetness, especially during the 4th trimester. This period that takes place after childbirth and for about three months allows the body and mind to heal entirely.

4T’s mission is to offer practical tools to recover during the fourth trimester, a period that is so important for the new mom and her baby. The physical and mental recovery of the mother is our goal, as is communication about the importance of this step and the normalization of daily questions, fears and worries.

A DIFFERENT APPROACH, GUIDED BY A CERTIFIED POSTNATAL DOULA

Geneviève Côté, mother of two, gives birth to 4T.

Certified postnatal Doula, her passion for motherhood is boundless. For her, being a mother is the most beautiful role in the world, but also the oldest! This is why the ancestral methods lavished by doulas over time speak to her a lot. She wants to share her knowledge adapted to reality 2.0, without taboos and without taking herself too seriously!

Geneviève accompanies the new mother and the family through the ups and downs of the postnatal period. She offers care and memo cards reminding with a little humor and a lot of love that the basics are often the sweetest way to solve any worries.

“I really like the expression mother the mother which means taking care of the new mother.
It is why 4T has been created!”

THE FOURTH TRIMESTER AROUND THE WORLD

Some interesting facts about the connection between some cultures of the world and the postnatal period:

  • The cuarentena in Latin America is the 40-day period when the mother stays with her baby while her relatives take care of the house and the elders.
  • The Qabla in the Moroccan tradition is the midwife who takes care of the mother during the period of 40 days following childbirth with care and adapted meals.
  • In Japan, the new mother returns to her parents’ home with her newborn baby and stays in bed for about four weeks while a strong bond is created.
  • At one time in China, mothers were in postnatal rest for 30 days.  Today, there are specialized luxury centers where, for a month, they have access to health professionals, nannies, massages, yoga classes and meals prepared by chefs.

AND WHERE DOES QUEBEC STAND IN THE POSTNATAL TRADITIONS?

“At the time, a religious ceremony called churching would marked the return of the mother to church after 40 days. During these 40 days, she was not allowed to go out and she was resting.”
— Anna Roy, midwife, author and columnist (Source : fr.aleteia.org)

And what if 4T was the churching of modern times? Who knows, we will perhaps be part of Quebec’s history one day …
